COMMACK, NY — Gurwin Jewish Fay J. Lindner Residences marked its 25th anniversary with a weeklong celebration that brought residents back to the golden age of the Catskill Mountain resorts.

The celebration, titled “A Nostalgic Return Trip to the Borscht Belt,” was designed as a virtual journey through the iconic resort destinations many residents remembered from their youth, including Grossinger’s, the Concord and other Catskills landmarks known for family vacations, live entertainment, comedians, dancing, social halls and poolside fun.

From an opening welcome to a festive closing ceremony, Gurwin staff organized a full week of themed programming honoring both the community’s heritage and its 25 years of service to older adults and their families.

“This celebration was about so much more than marking an anniversary,” Stuart Almer, president and CEO of Gurwin Healthcare System, said. “It was about honoring the memories, traditions and experiences that helped shape our residents’ lives. The Catskills hold a very special place in the hearts of so many of our residents, and our staff did an extraordinary job bringing that spirit to life with warmth, creativity and joy.”

The weeklong celebration included historical lectures and reminiscence programs about the Catskills, themed entertainment such as “Dance Lessons at the Concord,” traditional foods including borscht soup and deli fare, and a casino event called “Games at Grossinger’s.”

This anniversary week gave them a chance to relive those memories while making new ones with friends, family and staff.”
