County Finance Committee Approves Diverting Occupancy Tax Dollars (wxhc.com) — Cortland County lawmakers just advanced a plan that could shift hotel “bed tax” money away from tourism programs and toward broader economic development, despite strong pushback from local arts and history groups. The amended resolution, which caps tourism’s guaranteed share at the first $1 million in revenue, now heads to the full Legislature for a final vote on April 23. 
2. Two arrested for endangering the welfare of a child in Cortland County (Report) (cortlandvoice.com) — Law enforcement recently responded to a late-night domestic incident in Cortlandville where two local residents were accused of a physical altercation in front of a child. Both individuals now face child endangerment charges, with one also charged with violating an order of protection, and are scheduled to appear in Cortlandville town court.
3. Man arrested on drug charges in Cortland (newportdispatch.com) — Cortland residents should know a local man was recently arrested on multiple felony drug charges after a foot chase on Owego Street and is being held in the Cortland County Jail. Authorities say he was wanted by city police, allegedly tried to destroy suspected drugs during the arrest, and is due back in Cortland City Court on April 27.
4. McGibboney Named West Region Gymnast Of The Year; Karnitz Collects Coach Of The Year Honors (uwoshkoshtitans.com) — Cortland, N.Y., recently hosted the 2026 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championship, where standout gymnast McGibboney capped her career with two national titles and another All-America medal. The meet also helped showcase record-setting performances by the Oshkosh program, whose coach Karnitz earned West Region Coach of the Year honors.
