About Us

Yorktown Zen is an authentic Zen meditation center serving the communities of Northern Westchester and Putnam County, New York. Located at the Fourth Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Westchester in Mohegan Lake, the center provides a welcoming space for individuals to explore Zen Buddhism through regular practice and community engagement. All meetings are free and open to the public, fostering an inclusive environment for practitioners of all levels.

The center offers a structured program of authentic Zen training, including weekly meditation sessions, insightful Dharma talks, and traditional tea ceremonies. Under the guidance of Tesshin Silverman, a lineage holder of the Sanbo Kyodan school, students receive spiritual instruction that bridges traditional teachings with everyday life. Beyond weekly gatherings, the center hosts special events such as the annual Jukai ceremony and intensive meditation retreats, while providing extensive online resources to support home practice.

As a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Yorktown Zen is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of its lineage while remaining accessible to the local community. Whether attending in person or joining via Zoom, participants can expect a supportive atmosphere focused on mindfulness, authentic study, and the shared pursuit of spiritual growth.
