• Proposal to convert JCC North into apartments rejected (post-journal.com) — Dunkirk’s Town Zoning Board of Appeals has unanimously rejected a proposal to turn the former JCC North campus on Bennett Road into 22–24 market-rate apartments. Board members cited traffic, corridor character, and insufficient financial hardship evidence, while some residents pushed to preserve the area for commercial uses that better match the town’s long-term development plan. 
• ‘Big' attraction (observertoday.com) — Hundreds of residents packed Lucas Avenue in Dunkirk to watch Union Pacific’s historic Big Boy steam locomotive thunder through town, its whistle echoing across the city. After a major half-hour stop in Ripley, the 600‑ton engine drew big local crowds, cameras, and even a drone in Dunkirk before rolling on toward Buffalo.
• NYSP arrests Dunkirk man for sex crimes against children (wkbw.com) — State police say a man from Dunkirk has been arrested in connection with an Internet Crimes Against Children investigation and faces multiple serious charges, including predatory sexual assault against a child. Investigators allege he possessed and shared child pornography, located live victims tied to the material, and found methamphetamine during the arrest; anyone with information is urged to contact NYSP.
