• Hovercraft rescue saves Long Island family after boat runs aground near Fire Island (shorenewsnetwork.com) — A Copiague family's late-night boat trip ran aground near the Fire Island Inlet, forcing Suffolk police to use a hovercraft when low tide blocked their patrol boat. Officers safely reached the stranded group, and a 2-year-old with minor injuries was taken to the hospital while everyone else escaped harm.
