GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Tuesday, April 28.

The items reported took place between April 22 and April 28 and are as follows:

April 28:

  • GCPD responded to Adelphi University for a fire call. The alarm was due to a burnt transformer, and the transformer was subsequently disconnected.
  • GCPD responded to a fire call at Garden City Plaza. The alarm was triggered by flooding, which was corrected when maintenance turned off the water.

April 27:

  • A Garden City resident reported that an unauthorized person had picked up his package from FedEx with a fake ID. He reported the total loss as $4,883 – detectives are investigating.
  • Officers responded to Adelphi University for a fire call. It was determined that the alarm was set due to vaping.

April 26:

  • GCPD responded to a residence for a report of delivered packages not belonging to the homeowner and an unknown person at the location picking them up. Detectives are investigating.
  • GCPD assisted NCPD with a search for a youth who walked away from his home. He later returned home.
  • Officers stopped a Toyota Prius with a fraudulent Georgia temporary registration. Upon investigation, tickets were issued, and the vehicle was impounded to determine the true owner.
  • GCPD conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop, and an investigation at the scene revealed a violation of an order of protection. A 35- year-old Queens Village man was arrested.
  • Officers responded to Oxford Blvd. for a report of a found dog, and the dog and owner were reunited.

April 25:

  • GCPD participated in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. 32 pounds of prescription drugs were turned in for disposal.
  • GCPD and GCFD responded to Adelphi University for an automatic fire alarm that was determined to be activated by burnt food.

April 24:

  • Officers responded to the Garden City Library for a report of a larceny of library property. Detectives are investigating.
  • A GCPD Youth Detective gave a DWI "No Empty Chair" lecture at GCHS.

April 23:

  • A Garden City resident reported an identity theft involving the unauthorized withdrawal of approximately $6,000. Detectives are investigating.
  • Officers responded to a report of a dispute between a Lyft driver and a passenger. Upon arrival, the dispute was resolved, and the passenger left the vehicle.

April 22:

  • GCPD responded to a reported car being operated erratically and speeding. The car was not located.
