Stop & Shop Donates Over $2 Million to Eight Feeding America® Food Banks Across the Tri-State Area

Stop & Shop presented a check for more than $200,000 to Long Island Cares, Inc. – The Harry Chapin Food Bank during an event at the Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club. This contribution reflects Stop & Shop’s ongoing commitment to fighting hunger in the communities it serves and is part of a broader $2 million initiative supporting Feeding America food banks across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. As part of the event, a Stop & Shop dietitian led an interactive culinary experience for children attending the Boys & Girls Club. These funds will play a vital role in strengthening programs that address food insecurity throughout the region.

Food insecurity has continued to rise across Long Island. According to data from Long Island Cares:

• Approximately 313,880 people on Long Island struggle with food insecurity, including nearly 71,500 children.
• Approximately 40% of food-insecure Long Island households are above the poverty level but don’t make enough to keep up with the high cost of living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, making them ineligible for nutrition assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The donation from Stop & Shop was generated through an amalgamation of its in-store ‘Feed it Forward’ campaign, which ran in 2025 from October 31st to November 27th, and a significant contribution from Stop & Shop. The ‘Feed it Forward’ campaign raised over $51,000, while Stop & Shop contributed $150,000, in support of the food bank’s Kids Cafe after-school feeding and nutrition education program for food-insecure children.

The Kids Cafe program provides free, nutritious meals to children in need at a variety of community locations where they gather after school. These 20 sites include Boys & Girls Clubs, churches, community centers, and both public and private schools.

Beyond meals, Kids Cafe locations offer a safe and supportive environment where children can take part in educational, recreational, and social activities under the guidance of trusted staff. With support from Stop & Shop, the program will provide more than 70,000 meals to children in 2026.

Over its 20-year partnership with Long Island Cares, Stop & Shop have provided more than $4 million in monetary and food donations. All donations to Long Island Cares are earmarked to support Long Islanders suffering from food insecurity.
