The 16th Annual Gold Coast Int'l Film Festival opens with Pierre Monnard's heartwarming dramedy HELLO BETTY - the inspiring true story of Emmi Creola, the visionary advertising pioneer behind Switzerland’s most beloved culinary icon.
Set in 1956 Zurich, the film tells the true story of Emmi Creola (played by Sarah Spale), a talented copywriter who invents the fictional housewife "Betty Bossi" to promote a client's food products in a male-dominated workplace. Betty Bossi eventually becomes a massive national culinary icon, thrusting an overwhelmed Emmi into the public spotlight.
Her newfound fame is exhilarating – but also exhausting. The pressure mounts as Emmi finds herself increasingly torn between the demands of her career and her family.
From petticoats to the Cold War, HELLO BETTY offers a colorful, touching portrait of the 50‘s, told with warmth and gentle humor – and at the same time, tells a story that still feels very familiar to many women today.
