Hauppauge, Smithtown Students Earn Suffolk Youth Awards
4 local students were recognized for achievements in service, personal development, exploration and fitness.
HAUPPAUGE, NY — Four local students were honored with the Suffolk County Legislature’s Distinguished Youth Award during a ceremony hosted by Legislator Leslie Kennedy on Aug. 19.
The awards recognize Suffolk County residents between the ages of 13 and 18 who complete goals in four areas: volunteer service, personal development, exploration and physical fitness.
Bronze awards are presented to participants who meet requirements in two of the four categories, silver awards recognize completion of three categories and gold awards are given to those who fulfill requirements in all four.

The four honorees were:
- Jillian Potenza, Hauppauge High School — Bronze
- Lindsay TenBrink, Hauppauge High School — Silver
- Ella Muilenburg, Hauppauge Middle School — Gold
- Logan Singleton, Smithtown High School West — Gold
“Every year, I’m blown away by the dedication of the applicants,” Kennedy said. “They always have an impressive story and an impressive way of carrying themselves. I know they will end up being future leaders.”

The Distinguished Youth Award program is offered annually through the Suffolk County Legislature. Families interested in participating can contact their local county legislator for information about applying.
