Jeep Plows Through Shed, Into Hauppauge Home After Medical Episode: Police

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Two people were hospitalized after a Jeep crashed into a home near Plaisted Avenue on Thursday evening, Suffolk County police said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to the crash at 7:27 p.m. on July 9.

A 61-year-old Hauppauge man driving a 2015 Toyota was stopped at a red light in the westbound left-turn lane of Smithtown Bypass at Plaisted Avenue when a 2015 Jeep struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

The Jeep’s 25-year-old driver suffered an apparent medical episode before the collision, police said.

The impact pushed the Toyota into the intersection. The Jeep then turned south onto Plaisted Avenue, struck the front fence of a home and continued through the property’s back fence, police said.

The Jeep traveled through a neighboring property, crashed through a shed and struck the southeastern corner of a home at 30 Adrienne Lane, police said.

The Smithtown Fire Department said firefighters stabilized the vehicle, secured a gasoline leak from the damaged shed and shut off electrical service to the home. The residence sustained significant structural damage, fire officials said.

No one inside the home was injured. The two drivers were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.

No charges have been filed.
