VIDEO: 3 Arrested After 200-Vehicle Suffolk Street Takeover: Police

HAUPPAUGE, NY — Three people were arrested after at least 200 riders on ATVs, dirt bikes and motorcycles took part in a street takeover that stretched across several Suffolk County communities Saturday, police said.

Police began receiving multiple 911 calls at about 4:20 p.m. reporting riders driving recklessly and performing stunts on Route 347 in Hauppauge, authorities said.

Fourth Precinct officers responded, arrested two people and impounded several vehicles, police said.

The group then dispersed before regrouping near Motor Parkway and Express Drive South in Brentwood, according to police.

Highway Patrol and Third Precinct officers later saw the group traveling through Bay Shore. At about 6:30 p.m., two ATVs became disabled and their operators ran away, police said.

One of the operators was arrested and was found with a loaded gun, according to police.

Police said 10 vehicles were impounded.

Ava Mongiello, 23, of Mount Sinai, and Jahkil Arroyo, 29, of Central Islip, were each charged with reckless driving, second-degree reckless endangerment and unlawfully fleeing a police officer. Both were issued desk appearance tickets.

Shamir Solomon, 22, of Roosevelt, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful speed contest and reckless driving, police said.

Solomon was held overnight at the Third Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
