651 ARTS and Reel Sisters Present the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival
Event Details
651 ARTS, Brooklyn’s premier African Diasporic performing arts institution, joins forces with the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series for two days of bold storytelling, screenings, and filmmaker conversations celebrating the festival’s 29th anniversary season. Presented through an expanded partnership, the weekend spotlights films produced, directed, and written by women of color, exploring family, identity, migration, belonging, and imagination.
Highlights include Alterik Miller’s acclaimed 93’Til, a Philadelphia love story about art, music, and missed connections; Catherine Joy White’s Swim Sistas, featuring the voice of Naomie Harris; and Kamilah Thurmon’s Making Their Pointe, celebrating the legacy of African American ballet teachers. Each screening section includes a filmmaker Q&A, and Saturday’s program culminates with a special opening-night reception.
