Greenlawn Man Arrested After Woman Shot, Seriously Injured: Police

The man was arrested in New Rochelle hours after the shooting, Suffolk police say.

GREENLAWN, NY — A Greenlawn man was arrested Thursday after police said he shot and seriously injured a woman during a domestic-related incident early Thursday.

Eric Giovanni Whilby, 37, of Greenlawn, was arrested on Pelham Road in New Rochelle at around 8:40 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives arrested Whilby with assistance from New York State Police Troop T and the New Rochelle Police Department, police said.

Whilby was charged with first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said. He will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Central Islip, police said.

The shooting happened on Leigh Street in Huntington at 12:52 a.m., police said.

During a domestic-related incident, a 40-year-old woman was shot by a man, police said. The shooter fled the scene, police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
