📰 News we're reading

• Huntington Approves 168-Unit Cornerstone Melville Development (patch.com) — Huntington's Town Board has approved a 168‑unit Cornerstone Melville mixed‑use project in a close 3–2 vote, advancing new housing — including workforce and below‑market‑rate apartments — within the Melville Town Center Overlay District. Supporters say it's vital for Huntington's housing needs, while the Half Hollow Hills school district urges a slower pace to fully assess student, tax cap, and PILOT impacts.

• Town Board Rejects Gas Leaf Blower Resolution (huntingtonnow.com) — Huntington's Town Board has rejected a compromise plan to restrict gas-powered leaf blowers, leaving an earlier but unenforced ban still on the books while a moratorium continues. Councilmembers split 3–2 after residents, landscapers, and environmental advocates weighed health, noise, and cost concerns. Town leaders say they'll revisit how to regulate blowers before enforcement resumes.

• Lake Placid Film Festival to Honor Dylan Skolnick (huntingtonnow.com) — A longtime co-director of Huntington's Cinema Arts Centre, Dylan Skolnick, will be honored for his decades of championing independent and international film at the Lake Placid Film Festival on Nov. 6. The celebration includes a red-carpet cocktail evening, filmmaker conversations, and supports Adirondack Film's educational mission. Huntington film lovers may appreciate how this recognition highlights the local cinema's statewide influence.
