• Suffolk County child abuse, neglect deaths reached 10-year high as CPS still struggles to improve (newsday.com) — A 2-year-old’s 2024 drowning in an Islandia backyard pool is one of several Suffolk County child deaths where state officials say CPS mishandled investigations and risk assessments. The report details a decade-high number of maltreatment-related fatalities, staffing inexperience, and stalled reform efforts, while outlining county promises of more training, collaboration, and oversight.
   

• Glen Head resident Dr. Richard Taubman, son charged with illegally selling prescription drugs (newsday.com) — A retired gynecologist now linked to a non-medical weight-loss clinic in Islandia has been charged, along with his son, in a 24-count case alleging illegal prescriptions for painkillers and other drugs. Investigators say the prescriptions were issued without exams and funneled through Queens pharmacies, with the defendants currently free without bail and due back in court May 7.
