1. 3rd Human West Nile Virus Case Confirmed In Suffolk; Resident Hospitalized (patch.com) — Suffolk health officials have confirmed this season's third human West Nile virus case in a Town of Islip resident, who was hospitalized and is now recovering at home. With mosquito season running through November, residents are urged to use repellent, wear long sleeves, fix window screens, and remove standing water around Islip homes to cut the risk of infection.
   

2. Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic For Pets Coming To Central Islip (patch.com) — A free rabies vaccination clinic for dogs, cats, and ferrets is coming to the Islip Animal Shelter in Central Islip on Oct. 4, open to all Suffolk County residents with no appointment needed. Running from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the clinic helps Islip pet owners meet state vaccination requirements and reduce rabies risks, with simple safety rules for leashes, carriers, and avoiding wildlife.
   

3. Suffolk County, Islip Town Officials Mark 125th Anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency (longisland.com) — Islip residents just helped mark the 125th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's presidency with a celebration at the historic Meadow Croft Estate in Sayville, where Roosevelt once spent summers. Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and community members gathered to honor Long Island's only native-born U.S. president and highlight his local ties.
   

4. 3 East Islip High School Musicians Earn All-State Recognition (patch.com) — Three East Islip High School musicians have earned prestigious All-State recognition, spotlighting local talent from right here in the Islip community. Two students will perform at NYSSMA's Winter Conference in Rochester, while a third was named an alternate, and district leaders say they're excited for the advanced skills these teens will bring back to classmates.
   

5. Hochul says utility rebates will begin going out Monday (fingerlakes1.com) — For Islip residents, $150 million in state funding is still waiting to build a Long Island Rail Road link to MacArthur Airport, but Gov. Hochul says the project is stuck with the Islip Town Board. In a Long Island radio interview, she also detailed upcoming utility rebates, broader affordability programs, and urged local officials to resolve the rail dispute so construction can eventually move forward.
