Amityville Voters Approve $124M School Budget
Residents voted for the district's next spending plan.

AMITYVILLE, NY — Amityville School District voters approved the district’s proposed $123,963,246 budget for the 2026-27 school year on Tuesday and elected four trustees to the Board of Education.
The budget passed 740-621.
The approved spending plan represents a 2.64 percent increase over the current year’s $120,775,855 budget. District budget documents show the tax levy will increase by 1.56 percent, from $66,964,028 to $68,011,079.

District officials said the budget was designed to maintain current programs, support students and plan responsibly for the future.
According to the district, the budget prioritizes strong instruction, targeted supports and expanded opportunities for students, while continuing to support students academically, socially and emotionally. The district also said the spending plan invests in facility upgrades to keep schools safe, welcoming and supportive of learning.

The approved budget includes several instructional and support additions, including a special education teacher, elementary instructional coaches for special education and multilingual learners, high school department chairpersons, a speech teacher, a lead school counselor, summer bridge programs, a psychologist and a meditation room.
District officials said budget priorities were shaped by student focus groups and collaboration with principals to reflect student and school needs.
The district projected $47,587,077 in state aid, up from $45,738,527 this year. Local revenue was projected at $5,472,175, while the district planned to use $2,892,915 in fund balance and reserves.
Board Of Education Election
Voters also elected four trustees to the Board of Education.
Angel Davenport received 811 votes, Cheryl Quintyne-Best received 807 votes, Equasia Yard-Jean received 785 votes and Michael McDonald received 761 votes, securing the available seats.
McDonald was sworn in Tuesday night to a one-year term.
Donelle M. Cronin received 745 votes, Wendy Canestro received 712 votes, Stephanie Andrews received 685 votes and Christopher Papile received 685 votes.
District officials said election results remain unofficial pending certification by the district clerk.
