Suffolk County Village Lands In Top 10 Best Places To Live In NY: Report
The U.S. News & World Report ranked a Suffolk County village as a top 10 place in New York to live in 2026-27.
LINDENHURST, NY — Lindenhurst has been named one of the best places to live in New York, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2026-27 rankings.
The Suffolk County village ranked No. 7 in New York and No. 307 nationally on the publication’s list of the best places to live. Lindenhurst received an overall score of 5.7 out of 10, according to the report.
U.S. News & World Report rankings consider several factors, including housing costs, household income, unemployment, population, weather and commute times.

The report listed Lindenhurst’s population at 26,909 and its median age at about 41. The village’s median home value was listed at $519,043, compared with the national average of $359,870. The median monthly rent in Lindenhurst was listed at $1,774, while the median household income was $136,352, according to the report.
The average commute time in Lindenhurst was listed at about 26 minutes, slightly higher than the national average.

U.S. News also ranked Lindenhurst No. 739 among the best places to retire.
Massapequa Park, in Nassau County, was ranked the best place to live in New York for the second year in a row, according to the report. Hicksville ranked third statewide.
Nationally, the rankings favored communities in lower cost-of-living states, including Indiana, Texas, Georgia and Michigan.
