Jeanine Driscoll Wins Republican Primary In NY-4

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — Republican voters in New York’s 4th congressional district have spoken: Jeanine Driscoll will be the party’s candidate for congress in the November general election.

Driscoll, the Town of Hempstead’s receiver of taxes, defeated Marvin Williams in Tuesday’s primary, winning over 90 percent of the vote after all precincts had been counted. Of the 14,203 votes cast, Driscoll received 12,892 while Williams received 1,258.

The Bellerose Village resident and attorney told Patch during the run up to the primary that the cost of living was the most pressing issue facing the voters in the 4th district, saying she would vote to raise the SALT (State And Local Tax) deduction to ease some of that burden.

Driscoll advances out of the primary to a general election against incumbent Democrat Laura Gillen, who won the seat in 2024. In that election, Gillen narrowly defeated Anthony D’Esposito, winning 51.1 percent of the vote to D’Esposito’s 48.8 percent, a difference of roughly 8,500 votes.

In an interview before the primary, Driscoll called the incumbent a “tax hiker.”

“Laura Gillen is a tax hiker and I’m a tax fighter,” Driscoll said. “Gillen voted for higher taxes in the Town of Hempstead and she voted for the largest tax increase in American history. In contrast, I have helped thousands of Nassau families and seniors reduce their tax bills by qualifying for available exemptions and navigating the assessment process.”

In a statement Tuesday night, Gillen’s campaign referred to Driscoll as a “backup candidate.” The candidate she faced in the election two years ago, D’Esposito, was sworn in as Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Labor in January.

“Long Islanders know Laura Gillen is on their side. She’s focused on lowering costs, protecting taxpayers and delivering results for working families,” the statement read. “Now that the Nassau GOP has finally settled on their backup candidate, the choice couldn’t be clearer between common-sense leader Laura Gillen and Jeanine Driscoll, a tax-hiking insider who continues to demonstrate her loyalty is to the party bosses, not the people.”

The candidates now have just over four months to make their cases to voters. The general election will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
