LYNBROOK, NY — The Lynbrook roller rink is in for a new roof this week after the announcement of an $850,000 federal funding award Monday.

In an announcement of the funding, 4th-district Congresswoman Laura Gillen’s office said the new roof will be “all-weather,” making the rink “accessible and protected year-round.”

“I am proud to have secured $850,000 in new federal funding to help transform Lynbrook’s roller hockey rink into a year-round resource for families across Nassau County,” Gillen said. “This investment will expand recreational opportunities and give law enforcement a reliable space to mentor our youth and build deeper connections with the community. As a hockey mom, I was proud to fight for and bring these tax dollars back home for this project. I look forward to seeing many more happy years on this rink.”

The funds came from the federal government’s Community Project Funding program, part of the fiscal year 2026 appropriations process, Gillen’s office said. The canopy roof will feature lighting, allowing for the Lynbrook Police Department to hold youth sports and community outreach events year-round, “creating additional opportunities for local law enforcement to engage with residents and strengthen community relationship,” the congresswoman’s office said.

Present for the announcement were Lynbrook Roller Hockey League president Brian Paladino and Lynbrook Mayor Alan Beach, as well as high school senior John Szlai, a roller hockey player who was awarded with a college scholarship “in recognition of his commitment and dedication to the league and community.”
