• Second young child has died from drowning in Long Island pools within days (newsday.com) — A toddler who was found unresponsive in a Mastic Beach backyard pool on July 20 has died at Stony Brook University Hospital, Suffolk police said. Her death, along with another recent child drowning on Long Island, has prompted renewed reminders about pool fencing, designated watchers, and life jackets to help protect young children around water.
