Blizzard Rages On In Hudson Valley: Here’s How Much More Snow To Expect And When It Ends

Meteorologists give their latest estimated snowfall totals and a timeline for when the snow tapers off.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Heavy snow and gusty winds are continuing to impact the Hudson Valley region, though meteorologists predict the storm will begin to wind down later today.

The National Weather Service reports blizzard warnings for the Hudson Valley will be in effect through 6 to 7 p.m. this evening.

Additional snow accumulation of up to 12 inches is possible today, with total snowfall of between 10 and 20 inches. Snowfall rates could reach 2 inches per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds today will gust as high as 40 to 50 mph through much of the region, and up to 55 to 60 miles per hour in southern areas.

Snow is expected to wind down in the Hudson Valley by around 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday night will become mostly cloudy and windy, with gusts reaching between 25 to 32 miles per hour.

Travel will continue to be treacherous throughout the day today, according to the National Weather Service, with slippery roads and visibility as low as a quarter-mile. It advises restricting travel to emergencies, and if you do need to go out, bring a winter survival kit. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle, it said.

Strong winds and the weight of snow on tree limbs could down power lines, leading to sporadic power outages, the National Weather Service said.

Tonight: Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 20. Wind chill values between 10 and 15. Blustery, with a northwest wind 16 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.

Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30. Wind chill values between 10 and 20. West wind 9 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Tuesday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 4 a.m. Increasing clouds, with a low around 18. West wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Wednesday: Rain likely, possibly mixed with snow, mainly before 1 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 40. Southwest wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
