MINEOLA, NY — Police are seeking the public's help after a 76-year-old woman is out $60,000. The woman received a text message that there were possible fraudulent transactions on her Apple Pay account and that she needed to call a number and pay thousands of dollars, Nassau County police said. She complied with the message and met with two different men in Williston Park and Mineola, giving them each about $30,000 between August 25 and August 27, police said. After she realized she was scammed, she called the police on that Friday, August 28, police said. Police said the first man from the August 25 meet-up is described as a white man, about 5-feet 6-inches tall with a stocky build. Police said the second man from the August 27 meet-up is described as an asian man, about 5-feet 6-inches tall, and was last seen wearing a dark T-shirt and possibly wearing glasses. According to police, the investigation is still ongoing and they request anyone with information to call the Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS, or call 911 – all calls will be anonymous.
