1K $50 World Cup Tickets Will Be Offered To NYC Residents In Lottery: What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — New York City residents will soon be able to buy $50 tickets to select World Cup matches at MetLife Stadium following an agreement between FIFA and Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Mamdani after negotiating with FIFA president Gianni Infantino secured 1,000 $5o tickets for New Yorkers. The news was first reported by the Athletic.

The select tickets will be distributed through a lottery that opens on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. The lottery is only open to New York City residents.

Fans who get tickets will also receive free round-trip bus transportation to MetLife Stadium.

The tickets will be for five group-stage matches and two knockout-round matches.

"Those buying tickets may be asked to verify their identity and residency through official IDs, pay stubs, rental or mortgage agreements, recent utility bills," a message on the lottery website states.

According to the website, winners will be notified by email on June 3 and have 48 hours to buy up to two tickets.

"These are 1,000 tickets. They will be split into batches of 150. Those 150 will be for the five group games and the two knockout rounds in New York, New Jersey," Mamdani said during an announcement on Thursday.

FIFA has faced criticism over its pricing for World Cup matches. The cheapest ticket to a group stage match is upwards of $500.

New Yorkers can enter the lottery beginning on May 25 at www.regnyctix.com, according to the Mayor's Office. Entry closes on Saturday, May 30 at midnight.
