An interactive concert-play and love letter to immigrants who dream relentlessly

Rudi Goblen’s interactive concert play FITO combines live music, storytelling, dance, and spoken word to explore the immigrant experience of a Nicaraguan man living in the United States. Inviting audiences into a communal experience to foster connection and empathy, this production asks what it means to become an American while holding onto one’s roots.

Free Public Program: The Cypher and the Ceremony
The Shed I Saturday, July 25
An embodied public program directly following the 2 pm performance of FITO

This is not a talkback.

In FITO, becoming American arrives as an oath, a formal promise to “absolutely and entirely renounce” everything that came before. But rhythm is an inheritance, a cultural memory no oath can touch. It stays in the body, and the body remembers.

Following the matinee performance on Saturday, July 25, director Teo Castellanos invites you into a gathering rooted in the movement-based ritual practice that shaped the production, held in the cypher: a sacred, ceremonial form, a democratic circle where performance, witness, and community-making happen simultaneously.

The oath is one ritual of belonging; the cypher is another. One asks what you must give up. The other asks for nothing but your presence.

No experience necessary. Come as you are, ready to move.
