New Rochelle Library Challenges Community To Sign Up For 700 Library Cards This September

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The New Rochelle Public Library is asking the community to help sign up 700 new library cardholders during September as part of Library Card Sign-Up Month.

The campaign is open to New Rochelle residents, including children of all ages, as well as people who work or attend school in the city.

Eugenia Schatoff, executive director of the New Rochelle Public Library, said a library card now connects users with much more than books.

"Today's library card is so much more than a card for checking out books," Schatoff said. "It opens the door to resources, experiences and opportunities for everyone—from eBooks and technology to programs, learning and cultural experiences. We're excited to challenge New Rochelle to help us welcome 700 new cardholders this September and discover all that the New Rochelle Public Library has to offer."

The library card gives holders access to even more resources.

Cardholders can download eBooks and audiobooks through Libby, borrow Chromebooks, iPads and WiFi hotspots, and use museum passes through the library's Museum Pass Program. The library also offers Mango language learning, Peterson's Test Prep, Medici.tv and Estante Infinito, along with free programs that include concerts, lectures, book clubs, classes, story times, wellness programs, and arts and cultural performances.

The library also provides meeting and study spaces for online interviews, virtual appointments, small gatherings, and other uses. The library also offers resources for job seekers, small-business owners, students, families, hobbyists and lifelong learners, including sewing classes, sewing machines, homework help and community programs.

People can get a card by visiting the Main Library or the Huguenot Children's Library with identification and proof of New Rochelle residency, according to the announcement. Applications can also be completed online.

The library said residents will also have chances to sign up at outreach events in September, including the New Rochelle Street Fair on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Meet the Teacher Nights throughout the month.

The campaign comes as the library recently unveiled a new logo and prepares to introduce a redesigned website.
