17-Year-Old Dies After Being Found Unresponsive In North Fork Pool: Police

NORTH FORK, NY — A 17-year-old died after being found unresponsive in a Mattituck pool Friday afternoon, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at about 12:53 p.m. at a home on Bennetts Pond Lane.

Members of the Southold Town Police Department and Mattituck Fire Department responded to the home after the report of an unresponsive person in a swimming pool, police said.

Responding units located a 17-year-old male who had been removed from the pool prior to their arrival, police said.

The teen was not breathing, and lifesaving efforts were initiated, police said.

Despite those efforts, he was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased, police said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Southold Town Police Department's detective division in conjunction with the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office, police said.

No criminality is suspected at this time, police said.
