6 Injured In Crash Involving Mercedes Limo Bus On North Fork: Police

The collision took place exactly 11 years to the day since a fatal North Fork limo crash rocked community. No charges were filed Saturday.

NORTH FORK, NY — A crash involving a Mercedes sprinter van in Southold sent six to the hospital Saturday, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the crash took place on Route 48 and Youngs Avenue at 1:32 p.m.

A 2020 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, operated by Darryl Atkinson, 58, of Uniondale, was traveling eastbound on County Route 48 when Anne Pizzicara, 89, of Southold, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma, attempted to make a left turn from westbound County Route 48 and failed to yield the right of way, resulting in a collision, police said.

The Southold, Greenport, and Cutchogue Fire Departments responded to the scene, police said.

Both drivers and four passengers from the Sprinter van were transported to area hospitals for evaluation of minor injuries, police said.

Passengers includes a Shoreham woman, 31, a Yaphank woman, 29, a Ridge woman, 30, a Patchogue woman, 29, a 29-year-old Centereach woman, a 32-year-0ld Centereach woman, and a Miller Place woman, 35, police said.

No charges were filed in the crash, police said.

The collision took place exactly 11 years to the day, July 18, 2015, also a Saturday, when a fatal limo crash in Cutchogue took the lives of four young woman and left four others seriously injured.
