Jefferson and Madison 1791 Long Island Tour

On Sunday, Nov. 1, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Registration required.

Join Professor Kneski for an engaging exploration of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison's 1791 journey across Long Island. While officially presented as a scientific expedition, some contemporaries viewed it as a politically significant tour. Discover how Jefferson and Madison traveled through the East End, including the North Fork, met with local residents, and observed the region's landscape, agriculture, and communities. Explore what this remarkable excursion reveals about the early American republic and Long Island's place in its history. This program is a collaborative effort between the Cutchogue New Suffolk Free Library and the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council and Museum.
