Long Island Possiby Socked With Major Snow This Weekend — See Chances
Don't put away those snow shovels yet.

LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Island could possibly see up to 6 inches of snow this weekend — or nothing at all, the National Weather Service said Thursday.
According to David Stark meteorologist with the NWS office in Upton, there is a potential for a storm system to impact the area Sunday into Monday. "We just don't know yet how much, if any snow, is going to come from it," he said. "There's still a chance we don't see anything."
As of Thursday, Stark said there was a 20 to 30 percent chance of Long Islanders seeing 6-plus inches of snow.

That chance is due to a low pressure system developing somewhere off the Carolinas or the southern and mid-Atlantic coast at some point late this weekend, Stark said. And whether or not Long Island will experience snow depends on what course that storm takes.
"The question is, Where does that go? Harmlessly out to sea? Or will it inch its way closer to the northeast, bringing the chances closer to us?"

The answer may not be clear until Saturday, Stark said.
Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 30s to 40 Friday, with rain developing in the late morning into afternoon, resulting in a rainy evening, he said. Temperatures will then drop close to 30 degrees Friday night, and then, rise up again into the lower 40s Saturdays before plummeting into the upper 20s and low 30s Saturday night, Stark said.
Sunday's temps are expected to range from the mid-30s to mid-to-upper 20s Sunday night, he said.
