Mastic Man Charged With Felony DWAI Drugs in Peconic: Police

He was seen failing to maintain his lane and driving "well below" the posted speed limit, police say.

NORTH FORK, NY — A Mastic man was arrested and charged with felony driving while impaired by drugs in Peconic, police said.

According to Southold Town police, on August 25 at about 5:23 p.m., a report came in from passing motorists regarding a motorist who was reportedly unable to maintain their lane of travel and was operating well below the posted speed limit.

STPD officers responded to the area and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle, police said.

Further investigation determined that Robert Castro, 58, was the operator and sole occupant of the vehicle, ,police said.

Castro consented to standardized field sobriety testing and was determined to be impaired, police said.

He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, police said.

Castro was transported to STPD headquarters for arrest processing; following processing and an inventory of his property, he was held overnight pending arraignment before the Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
