MEDFORD, NY — A 44-year-old man was sentenced Friday to six years in prison for sexually abusing three young girls during separate visits to a Medford T.J. Maxx in 2025, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Jimmy Harry Velasquezgomez, a Honduran national, pleaded guilty Aug. 27 to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse after admitting to grabbing the buttocks of girls ages 7, 9 and 11 while they were shopping with their families, prosecutors said.

Velasquezgomez was sentenced Oct. 9 to three concurrent six-year prison terms, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision, prosecutors said.

According to prosecutors, the first incident occurred April 19, 2025, when a 7-year-old girl was shopping with her mother and received permission to browse the toy aisle. Velasquezgomez approached the girl and squeezed her buttocks, authorities said.

The child immediately returned to her mother and reported what happened. Her mother searched for the man but could not find him before contacting police, prosecutors said.

On Sept. 20, 2025, an 11-year-old girl was shopping with her parents when she walked away to look for a gift for a friend. She noticed Velasquezgomez standing nearby and holding his genitals through his clothing, prosecutors said.

He later approached the girl and grabbed her buttocks as he walked past her, authorities said. The girl reported the incident to her parents, but Velasquezgomez had already left the store.

The third incident occurred Oct. 29, 2025, when a 9-year-old girl was shopping with her mother and walked farther down an aisle to look at toys.

Prosecutors said Velasquezgomez passed the girl, repeatedly looked down the aisle and then approached her. He lifted the bottom of her sweatshirt and squeezed her buttocks, prompting the child to run back to her mother.

Suffolk County police obtained surveillance footage showing Velasquezgomez inside the store on all three dates, prosecutors said. Video also showed him touching his genitals over his clothing while staring at the 9-year-old girl, according to authorities.

Velasquezgomez was arrested Nov. 1, 2025, in East Islip and has remained in custody since then.

He was sentenced before Acting Supreme Court Justice Karen Wilutis. Full stay-away orders of protection were issued for all three victims, and Velasquezgomez was certified as a sex offender, prosecutors said.

According to the district attorney's office, Velasquezgomez is in the United States illegally, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer seeking custody of him following completion of his prison sentence.

Velasquezgomez was represented by attorney Daniel Belano, who was not immediately available for request for comment.

“Every parent should be able to let their young child walk to the next aisle at a store without fear,” Tierney said. “This defendant violated that basic trust three times, targeting young girls in places where they should have been safe. Today, he has been held accountable for his actions and sentenced for the harm he caused.”
