Suffolk officials, first responders, and labor leaders say the Patchogue-area chokepoint hurts emergency response, worsens air quality, and slows commuters, and they're pressing New York State to fund planning and construction for the widening project.
   

• Patchogue Employer Charged With Workers' Comp Insurance Fraud - ProgramBusiness (programbusiness.com) — A Patchogue-based asbestos removal company, VGN Enterprise Corporation, and its owner are charged with felony workers' compensation insurance fraud after investigators say they understated payroll, workforce size, and job hazards. Suffolk County prosecutors allege more than $160,000 in underpaid premiums, and the owner is due back in court later this month as the financial crimes case proceeds.
   

• NYU Langone—Suffolk opens pantry to address food insecurity (libn.com) — Patients leaving NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue can now access a new food pantry in the main lobby, offering free nutritious items to those facing food insecurity. Staff, Island Harvest, and the Rotary Club of Patchogue helped create the program, which supports patients' recovery and dignity alongside an existing clothing closet initiative.

What your neighbors are talking about on social media

  • With the 3pm to 7pm peak rates (it is twice the rate), for PSEG being higher than the rest of the day, I did not know that included central air conditioning.
    I did try to cool my house off before the afternoon, and use fans, but I still used the central air conditioning 3pm to 7pm. Guess it is a lesson… (Nextdoor Upper East Patchogue)
