Four graduates planning health care careers received scholarships from NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital's Auxiliary.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital's Auxiliary has awarded four local seniors $2,000 scholarships as graduation season gets underway. The awards recognize students planning to pursue careers in the health field, and the students were presented with their scholarships earlier this month.

The scholarship recipients are Sophia Randazzo, a Putnam Valley High School graduate; Brandon Inga, a Peekskill High School graduate; Jona Gashi, a Lakeland High School senior graduate; and Patrick Burello, a Walter Panas graduate. A fifth student, Deisy Berganza, is a Peekskill High School graduate.

Randazzo will pursue a nursing degree. According to the announcement, she spends time serving both her high school and the community through St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, the Putnam Valley Education Foundation, and Putnam Valley sports clubs. She is also involved in student government, the national blood drive and the environmental club.

Inga will also pursue a nursing degree. According to the announcement, he is a former volunteer with NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, where he helped make patients feel seen and heard.

Gashi plans to pursue pre-med and biomedical science. According to the announcement, she volunteers at the public library, takes part in student government, and volunteers within the Albanian club.

Burello will pursue a nursing degree. According to the announcement, he is a former volunteer with NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, helping clinical team members, patients and visitors.

Berganza will also pursue a nursing degree. According to the hospital, she is a former volunteer with NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital, helping on the clinical floors.

The scholarships spotlight a shared interest in health care among this year's recipients, with four students planning to study nursing and one planning a pre-med and biomedical science track. NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital also points to a strong record of community involvement among the students, including volunteer work, school activities and service tied to local organizations..
