The town board has now hired outside zoning and land-use counsel to defend its decision, while the neighborhood association seeks to halt work and overturn project approvals.

• Port Washington Youth Activities annual Golf Classic returns (longislandpress.com) — Port Washington Youth Activities is bringing back its 29th annual Golf Classic on Oct. 19 at the Village Club of Sands Point, supporting local youth sports programs. Golfers get meals, contests, raffles, and auctions, with registration and sponsorships still open through PYA's website, Arena Graphics on Main Street, or by contacting the outing chair directly.

• Long Island fall fairs and festivals 2026 (newsday.com) — Port Washington families can mark their calendars for the free Pumpkin Festival at United Methodist Church on Middle Neck Road, running 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 with rides, games, and food. The broader guide also highlights dozens of other fall fairs, food festivals, and Halloween events across Long Island throughout October.
