Body Discovered Floating In Jamaica Bay Identified As NYC Teen

The body was found on May 29 near the shoreline between Beach 21st Street and Newport Avenue.

QUEENS, NY — The body of a swimmer found floating off Jamaica Bay late last month has been identified, according to the victim's family and reports.

The victim, Brandon Figueroa, 18, was identified by his family, according to a GoFundMe page statement.

“On behalf of me and my family we very much appreciate all the support, prayers and donations,” Figueroa's mom wrote.

“This unimaginable tragedy has left our family heartbroken and lost for words."

Figueroa's body was found on May 29 near the shoreline between Beach 21st Street and Newport Avenue around 7:35 a.m.

According to police, the body had been in the water for an extended period of time.

The 18-year-old had apparently gone missing on May 19 after entering the waters at Rockaway Beach.

The identity of the man has been officially confirmed. The city's medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
