Teen Swimmer Goes Missing Off Rockaway Beach

QUEENS, NY — A teen swimmer has been reported missing in the water off Rockaway Beach on Tuesday, according to police and FDNY.

The 18-year-old was reported missing around 3:30 p.m. near Shore Front Parkway and Beach 73rd St., police said.

NYPD Harbor and Aviation Units along with FDNY rescue swimmers searched the area for more than an hour before ending their search around 4:50 p.m.

The person remains missing as of Tuesday night.

“Please stay clear of the area and let the emergency services work. They’re trying their hardest to locate the individual. Lifting the missing young man and emergency personnel up in prayer,” NYC Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers said in a post on X.
