Crime Stoppers: Man wanted in Riverhead grand larceny at Nike store (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead police and Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are asking for your help identifying a man who allegedly stole about $1,580 in clothing and sneakers from the Nike store on West Main Street on August 16. A cash reward is offered for anonymous tips submitted by phone, app or online that lead to an arrest, with all information kept confidential.
   

2. NY PLAYS $2.4 million grant completes funding for downtown playground (riverheadlocal.com) — Riverhead has secured a nearly $2.4 million NY PLAYS grant that fully funds an adaptive children's playground planned along the Peconic River waterfront. The playground, part of the Town Square revitalization, will feature inclusive equipment, sensory landscaping and flood-resilience features, with construction expected to begin next summer as part of broader downtown improvements.
   

3. Riverhead's Tentative 2027 Budget Does Not Pierce the Tax Cap (eastendbeacon.com) — Riverhead's tentative 2027 town budget keeps the tax levy within New York State's cap while still funding new hires, promotions and 76 merit raises for town employees. Supervisor Jerry Halpin says the plan reduces reliance on fund balance, avoids raises for elected officials, and aims to improve employee retention without significantly increasing residential costs.
   

4. William Floyd Volleyball Celebrates Seniors with Comeback Victory (southshorepress.com) — Riverhead's girls volleyball team fell 3–1 in a hard-fought Senior Night match at William Floyd, where the Colonials rallied after losing the first set. Despite the loss for Riverhead, the game featured tight sets and standout performances on both sides, while William Floyd's six seniors were honored with flowers, speeches, and a celebratory comeback win.
   

5. Repeat felony DWI offender sentenced to up to 7 years in prison (riverheadlocal.com) — A repeat DWI offender with multiple prior convictions has been sentenced to up to seven years in prison after a Suffolk County jury found him guilty in a Southampton case. Investigators later caught him driving without a valid license near Main Street in Riverhead while he was awaiting sentencing, and federal immigration authorities now plan to take custody after he serves his term.
