Speakers stressed the need for regulation, U.S.-based manufacturing, and strong unions to protect workers' wages, benefits, and job security, while longtime union members shared how organizing improved their lives.
   

2. USA Deaf Baseball players throw first pitch at Rochester Red Wings game (13wham.com) — Rochester baseball fans saw USA Deaf Baseball players, including two Rochester natives, throw out the first pitch at Monday's Red Wings game, highlighting Deaf Culture Night. 3. Parole denied for Webster man who killed father, brothers in 2011 fire (rochesterfirst.com) — A high-profile Webster arson case with close ties to Rochester resurfaced as parole was denied for Michael Pilato, who set a 2011 fire that killed his father and two brothers. Now 30, he remains in state prison and won't face the parole board again until August 2028, while his surviving sisters continue to oppose his release.
   

4. Heart pump helps save Rochester-area mom from transplant (13wham.com) — A Hilton mother's life-threatening heart failure led to emergency treatment at Rochester Regional Health and Rochester General Hospital, where doctors used an Impella heart pump to let her heart rest and recover. She ultimately avoided a transplant, returned to full health, and is now back to work, running races, and savoring everyday family moments across the Rochester area.
   

5. New law requires natural hair training in New York cosmetology schools (rochesterfirst.com) — A new New York law now requires cosmetology schools to teach natural and textured hair care, and Rochester's Visions School of Beauty is already ahead of the curve. As the city's first Black-owned beauty school, it's been offering this training for years, helping ensure anyone in Rochester who sits in their chairs feels welcomed and properly served.
