The Monroe County Department of Public Health outlines risk windows, who's most vulnerable, and how Rochester-area residents can get guidance or care safely.
   

2. Rochester General Hospital marks 70 years on Portland Avenue (fingerlakes1.com) — Rochester General Hospital is celebrating 70 years on its Portland Avenue campus, highlighting its growth into a major local employer and health care hub for city residents. Recent investments include upgraded cardiac labs, AI-guided cancer treatment, and an Innovation Lab partnering with RIT, all aimed at improving care and strengthening services for Rochester and surrounding communities.
   

3. Fundraisers rappel down Rochester Hyatt to support The Arc (13wham.com) — Fundraisers spent Thursday rappelling 170 feet down the Hyatt Regency in downtown Rochester to support programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through The Arc Ontario and The Arc of Monroe. Local mascots and advocates joined in, each raising at least $1,000 to back services that directly support Rochester-area residents and their families.
   

4. URochester advances design of high-power laser facility (rbj.net) — The University of Rochester just secured up to $13.7 million to advance design of what could become the world's most powerful laser at its Laboratory for Laser Energetics. The NSF OPAL project is expected to boost Rochester's optics and photonics sector, supporting local jobs, industry partnerships, and cutting-edge research with applications from energy to medicine.
   

5. WXXI's Saenz named Hispanic Business Person of the Year (rbj.net) — Rochester's own Julio Sáenz, chief content officer at WXXI Public Media, has been honored as the 2026 Hispanic Business Person of the Year by the Rochester Hispanic Business Association. His decades of work in bilingual media, local nonprofits, and teaching at RIT highlight a deep commitment to elevating Latino voices and strengthening community connections.
