Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: July 20 to Aug. 3 2026

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Suffolk's first responders were busy last week, according to the Suffolk County Police Department and other first responders’ logs.

Here's a snapshot of some incidents and arrests:

EAST PATCHOGUE

• A man reported that a glass door was broken, wires to security cameras were cut, and $2,000 was swiped from his Home on Barton Avenue in East Patchogue at 4 p.m. on Friday.
• A 2014 Honda Accord left running in the driveway of a home on South Country Road in East Patchogue was swiped at 9:15 a.m. on Friday.

EAST SETAUKET

• Police responded to a falsely reported incident at a home on Deer Lane in East Setauket on July 28. It was determined to be a prank by a child and deemed non-criminal, police said.

FARMINGVILLE

• A woman performing oral sex on a man was hurt when she tried to get back inside his vehicle, and he drove away in Farmingville on July 21, police said.

The incident unfolded in the park-and-ride next to Applebee's on North Ocean Avenue at around 1:15 a.m., according to police.

Another vehicle with two people pulled up alongside the couple, spooking the driver, and he tried to pull the vehicle away, but the woman was dragged and was hurt, suffering scrapes, police said.

The woman was taken to NYU Langone-Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue, according to police.

GORDON HEIGHTS

• A 43-year-old man from Gordon Heights was charged with exposure of a person on July 20 for exposing himself in a public area on Middle Country Road in Gordon Heights.

HOLBROOK

• Two men were arrested for public lewdness in Holbrook after police say they were engaged in sexual activity on July 24.

The pair were caught on Lincoln Avenue at around 5:44 p.m., according to police.

A 23-year-old man from Mastic Beach and a 51-year-old man, whose address was not available, were charged with public lewdness, police said.

• A resident told police she discovered racist and anti-Semitic graffiti on trees in the woods off Second Street in Holbrook on July 20.

MASTIC BEACH

• A homeowner reported that an unknown person was inside their home on Bayview Drive in Mastic Beach at around 9:30 a.m. on July 28. No charges were filed.

MIDDLE ISLAND

• A resident who lives on Middle Country Road in Middle Island reported $30 stolen at around 7:40 p.m. on July 23.

MILLER PLACE

• A large amount of DayQuil and NyQuil were reported stolen from a location on Rte 25A in Miller Place Commons at 8 p.m. on July 23.

MOUNT SINAI

• A 74-year-old man was brought to the hospital after police say he was assaulted in Mount Sinai on July 24, police said.

John Demertzis, 60, of Terryville, was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault after being involved in a fight with the man and shoving him onto his back and striking his head on Harbor Beach Road at around 10 p.m., according to police.

The man was brought to Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson, police said.

Demertzis pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, and was released on bail without monetary conditions, online court records show.

An order of protection was issued, according to the records.

• A Mount Sinai man was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and petty larceny on July 26 for an incident that happened on Mount Sinai-Coram Road, police said. Further details were not available.

PATCHOGUE

• A 21-year-old man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after being struck in the head and leg on Main Street in Patchogue on July 26, police said.

It happened at around 2:20 a.m., according to police.No arrests have been made.

• A man fired a blank in an incident on Clark Street in Patchogue at around 5:12 p.m. on Aug. 2.

PORT JEFFERSON

• Several people reported being assaulted by a bouncer at Billie's 1890 Saloon in Port Jefferson at around 1:30 a.m. on July 25. At least one of them, a man, said he was punched in the face and body by another man and wants to press charges. No further details were available.

ROCKY POINT

• A Rocky Point man was arrested on weapon possession charges on July 22, police said. Edward Garriens, 59, was charged with one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon for an incident that happened on Flamingo Road, according to police.

Further details were not available.

SELDEN

• A 21-year-old man was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment after a fight at a Selden pub on July 29, police said.

Celina Green, 39, of Mastic Beach was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault after the altercation, according to police.

Further details were not available.

SHIRLEY

• Police were called to Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary School in Shirley for an altercation between two boys — an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old — over a bicycle on July 22.
• A 44-year-old man was charged with fifth-degree arson for an incident on Surrey Circle Road in Shirley at around 9 a.m. on Aug. 2.
