Ronkonkoma Beach Reopens, As Suffolk Closes Two More
The popular swimming area, along with Tides Beach in Rocky Point, was closed earlier this week, Suffolk health officials say.
RONKONKOMA, NY — The Suffolk County Department of Health Services has reopened Ronkonkoma Beach, as two more beaches close, a spokeswoman said Friday.
Ronkonkoma Beach was closed down on Tuesday due to unsafe bacteria levels.
Tides Beach in Rocky Point also remains closed.

But on Friday night, the county announced that Tanner Park Beach in Copiague and Sayville Marina Park Beach in Sayville were also closed to bathing due to findings of
bacterial levels exceeding acceptable criteria.
The beaches will reopen when the levels subside.

Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott says bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
