• 4 Rescued In Pre-Dawn Save From Stranded Boat That Ran Aground In Atlantic Ocean Off LI Beach (patch.com) — Early Sunday morning, four people were safely rescued after their 31-foot fishing boat ran aground on a sandbar off Smith Point County Park in Shirley. Multiple local fire departments and the Moriches Inlet Response Team coordinated with the U.S. Coast Guard in rough, pre-storm conditions, removing three occupants while the captain stayed aboard awaiting Sea Tow. The swift response highlighted the intensive marine training and close cooperation among Shirley-area emergency crews.
