Pilot Taken To Hospital After Landing Plane With Gear Up At Brookhaven Calabro Airport In Shirley: Police

It happened Sunday night at around 10:20 p.m., Suffolk police say.

SHIRLEY, NY — A Cessna airplane was landed with its gear up, or belly landing, at Brookhaven Calabro Airport in Shirley Sunday night, Suffolk police said.

A gear up landing means the aircraft landed without its landing gear extended.

It happened at around 10:20 p.m., and no passengers were aboard.

The pilot, a 54-year-old from Lindenhurst, was taken By Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company to NYU Langone Hospital – Suffolk in East Patchogue for a precautionary medical evaluation, officials said.

The district office of the Federal Aviation Administration was notified.

In a post to Facebook, Mastic Fire Department officials said its front landing gear never came out properly, and it was leaking fluids, so the scene needed to be secured.
