Suffolk Police Warn Against Break-Ins, Vehicle Thefts

SHIRLEY, NY — The Suffolk County Police Department issued a warning to residents about vehicle break-ins and stolen vehicles on Tuesday in a social media post.

In recent weeks, residents of the Mastic-Shirley area have taken to social media to complain about either having their vehicle broken into, or stolen, or recording people checking vehicles to see if they are open in the middle of the night.

Patch has reached out to Suffolk police.

In the post, Det. Sean Manning reminded residents to make sure that they lock their vehicles throughout the day and night and to be cognizant of where they keep their key fobs.

"Target hardening is especially paramount during the warm weather months," Manning said, adding that making sure floodlights are functioning is an example.

"Please contact your local precinct with any and all information relating to suspicious persons and/or vehicles in the area or if you have any video that you would be willing to share regarding any open/active cases you may be privy to in your area," Manning said.

"Thank you and enjoy the rest of the summer," the post concluded.
