Officials say the project will protect drinking water and finally let downtown Smithtown businesses expand, while assuring nearby residents that the new infrastructure will be out of sight and odor-free.
   

• Rabies Cases Prompt Nationwide Health Advisory: What Long Island Residents Should Know (patch.com) — A raccoon found outside a Smithtown home recently tested positive for rabies, part of a growing outbreak spreading across Suffolk County communities. Health officials are urging residents to keep pets vaccinated, avoid contact with strange-acting wildlife, and seek immediate medical advice after any bite or scratch to prevent this almost always fatal disease.
