Somers plans ahead for traffic disruptions during Route 202 project (halstonmedia.com) — Somers officials are preparing residents for an eight-week closure on Route 202 near the middle school starting July 7, as the state replaces a failing culvert. The town is coordinating detours, school and emergency access, and urges residents to watch somersny.gov and CodeRED alerts as $15 million in state-funded road work rolls through town. 
2. Man Repeatedly Stalks 74-Year-Old Woman Walking In Westchester County: Police (dailyvoice.com) — A Somers resident has been charged after police say he repeatedly approached and frightened a 74-year-old woman walking in nearby North Salem, leading to stalking and harassment counts. State Police and the Westchester DA’s Office secured a stay-away order, and the case returns to North Salem Justice Court on June 15.
3. Local officers recognized at awards ceremony (halstonmedia.com) — Yorktown police recently honored officers and civilians for lifesaving work and major arrests, including several tense calls that unfolded in Somers. From rescuing a suicidal man near local water to pursuing a fleeing suspect through Somers, the commendations highlight how closely Somers and Yorktown first responders work together to keep area residents safe.
4. George E. Merritt (halstonmedia.com) — Somers residents are mourning longtime neighbor George E. Merritt, a 50-year town resident and Heritage Hills community leader who passed away June 7 at age 98. A Navy veteran, devoted family man, and active St. Joseph’s parishioner, he leaves behind his wife Nannette, a large extended family, and many local friends. Funeral Mass and burial will both be held in Somers.
