Driver's Attempt To Evade Police Ends In Southampton Crash: Authorities

He crashed into a fence, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A man who tried to evade police ended up veering off the roadway and striking a fence, authorities said.

According to Southampton Town police, on Friday at 11:08 p.m., a driver was seen violating a vehicle and traffic law while heading east on County Road 39 in Southampton.

A Southampton Town police unit attempted to stop the driver; however, he accelerated and began operating recklessly while attempting to evade police, authorities said.

Shortly after, the vehicle eventually came to a rest after leaving the roadway and crashing into a fence, police said.

The driver, Camari Isaiah Ziegler, 22, of Shirley, was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for arrest processing, officials said.

He was charged with one count of reckless driving, one count of unlawful fleeing a police officer, and multiple violations of the vehicle and traffic law, police said.

Ziegler was released on an appearance ticket to appear in Southampton Town justice court at a later date, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.
