East Hampton Man Charged With DWI After Fleeing Scene Of Water Mill Crash: Police

The 2-car crash took place Friday night, police say.

WATER MILL, NY — An East Hampton man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after leaving the scene of a Water Mill crash, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the two-car crash took place on Friday at 8:09 p.m. at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Proprietors Road in Water Mill.

Upon arrival officers found that the driver of one of the involved vehicles, a 2012 Honda, had left the scene and headed eastbound on Montauk Highway prior to police arrival, officials said.

Shortly afterward, a patrol officer in Sagaponack observed the vehicle traveling eastbound on Montauk Highway and failing to maintain its lane of travel near Main Street in Sagaponack, police said.

A traffic stop was conducted and further investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Marco F. Pineda Pineda, 36, of East Hampton was operating in an intoxicated condition, police said.

He was arrested at the scene and then transported to police headquarters for processing, police said.

He was charged with misdemeanor DWI; leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, an infraction; and several traffic infractions, police said. He was held overnight for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.
