• Southampton Town Taking Steps To Keep Residents Safe As Nor'easter Readies To Pummel Region (patch.com) — Southampton Town officials are closely tracking an approaching nor'easter and coordinating with Suffolk County, local villages, and police to protect residents. With major concerns about coastal erosion and flooding near Shinnecock Inlet, the town has suspended beach driving, alerted boat owners, and pushed safety messages to more than 8,000 people through its new mass notification system.

After years of deterioration and funding setbacks, the village has secured a major state preservation grant and significant local donations, bringing it close to the $1.2 million needed to complete repairs and reopen the site.
   

• Repeat felony DWI offender sentenced to up to 7 years in prison (riverheadlocal.com) — A repeat DWI offender has been sentenced to up to seven years in state prison after being convicted of driving drunk in Southampton, following a traffic stop near Flanders Road and Longneck Boulevard. Prosecutors say it was his fourth felony DWI in a decade, and that he was later caught driving without a valid license despite a court order barring him from driving.
